Pets strategy
How to choose, equip, and pair pets across farming, defense, and collection.
Last reviewed: Jun 21, 2026
Pets in Grow a Garden 2 are passive companions that grant bonuses while equipped. There are 13 pets in the verified data, ranging from Common (10,000 Sheckles) to Super (20,000,000 Sheckles). Pets do not attack, get tired, or consume food — they apply their ability continuously.
Pets serve three roles: income (Deer, Golden Dragonfly, Unicorn, Ice Serpent), defense (Bee, Black Dragon, Ice Serpent), and collection (Monkey, Robin, Raccoon). Your active pet should match what you are doing right now. Most players keep one income pet equipped 90% of the time and swap to a defense pet only when actively being raided.
Pet tier list — honesty first. No dedicated pet tier list exists in any of our three source sites, so we do not invent one. The full pet table below (sorted by rarity) lets you compare them on the criteria that matter to you. See also thepets tier-list page for the formal source attestation.

- Big Bee (TBA) — A rarer Bee variant — stats not yet documented. Source: Egg (unconfirmed — not bound to a specific egg).
- 2Income pets — boost your farming
These four pets directly raise your harvest value. Equip the one that matches your current strategy:
- Deer (Rare, 50,000 Sheckles) — plants grow 10% faster. The default income pet for almost every player. Pays for itself within a few hours of active play.
- Golden Dragonfly (Mythic, 9,000,000 Sheckles) — doubles the chance of the Gold mutation. Equip during Midas weather or whenever you are growing high-base crops that can roll Gold.
- Unicorn (Mythic, 12,000,000 Sheckles) — doubles the chance of the Rainbow mutation. Equip during Rainbow Moon weather or whenever you are growing high-base crops that can roll Rainbow.
- Ice Serpent (Super, 20,000,000 Sheckles) — applies Frozen to your plants as a defensive side effect. The only pet that produces a weather mutation without weather. Also defends against thieves.
- 3Defense pets — protect your garden
Other players can steal from your garden. Defense pets and defensive crops (Venus Fly Trap, Moon Bloom, Dragon's Breath) are your response. Three pets are dedicated to defense:
- Bee (Legendary, 1,000,000 Sheckles) — patrols the garden and swarms intruders. The cheapest dedicated defense pet.
- Black Dragon (Super, 1,000,000 Sheckles shop-only) — breathes fire on intruders. Notable for being the cheapest Super pet in Sheckles.
- Ice Serpent (Super, 20,000,000 Sheckles) — freezes intruders AND applies Frozen to your plants. The most expensive pet in the game; doubles as an income pet.
Pair defensive pets with owner doors, fences, and bear traps from Charlotte's Props Shop for layered defense.
- 4Collection pets — gather faster
Collection pets speed up the parts of the game loop that are not about sell value:
- Monkey (Mythic, 1,000,000 Sheckles) — picks ripe fruit and delivers it to you. Massive quality-of-life upgrade for players with many plots.
- Robin (Legendary, 75,000 Sheckles) — eats ripe fruit and occasionally drops bonus seeds. The cheapest collection pet.
- Raccoon (Super, 360 Robux) — +25 steal limit at night. The only Robux-only Super pet.
- Owl (Uncommon, 25,000 Sheckles) — +12.5% view distance at night and hoots when a rare pet spawns nearby. Useful for pet hunting.
- 5Utility pets — movement and exploration
- Frog (Common, 10,000 Sheckles) — +5 jump height. Lets you clear short fences. The first pet most players buy.
- Bunny (Common, 20,000 Sheckles) — +5 walk speed. Helps you move between plots and NPCs faster.
Big Bee (TBA) — a rarer variant of Bee. Stats are not yet documented (confidence: unconfirmed). Source: Common Egg (community-reported).
- 6Hatching strategy — Common Egg vs Common Pet Egg
Available eggs:
- Common Egg (Common) — Guild Rewards (weekly). Hatches into: Frog, Bunny, Deer, others (table not fully confirmed).
- Common Pet Egg (TBA) — Limited-time — not currently obtainable.
Recommendation: claim your weekly Common Egg from Gilbert at the Guild Stand and hatch it on cooldown. The expected value is positive even if you only get a Frog (10,000 Sheckles equivalent) because the egg itself is free.
- 7Pet pairing — when to swap
A practical equipment schedule for a player with all pets unlocked:
- 90% of the time — Deer. The 10% growth speed is always useful and never wasted.
- When Midas weather starts — swap to Golden Dragonfly. Stay equipped until the event ends and you have harvested everything.
- When Rainbow Moon starts — swap to Unicorn. Same pattern.
- When a thief enters your garden — swap to Bee, Black Dragon, or Ice Serpent. Swap back to Deer after the threat passes.
- When harvesting 4+ ripe plots — swap to Monkey for the duration of the harvest, then swap back.
- If you have Ice Serpent— consider keeping it equipped permanently. The Frozen application is rare enough that Deer's 10% growth wins on average, but Ice Serpent eliminates the need to swap during Blizzard and doubles as defense.
