Pets strategy
How to choose, equip, and pair pets across farming, defense, and collection.
Last reviewed: Jun 30, 2026
Pets in Grow a Garden 2 are passive companions that grant bonuses while equipped. There are 31 pets in the verified data, ranging from Common to Super rarity. Pets do not attack, get tired, or consume food — they apply their ability continuously. For current prices and acquisition details for any specific pet, see its pet detail page.
Pets serve three roles: income (Deer, Golden Dragonfly, Unicorn, Ice Serpent), defense (Bee, Black Dragon, Ice Serpent), and collection (Monkey, Robin, Raccoon). Your active pet should match what you are doing right now. Most players keep one income pet equipped 90% of the time and swap to a defense pet only when actively being raided.
Pet tier list — honesty first. No dedicated pet tier list exists in any of our three source sites, so we do not invent one. The full pet table below (sorted by rarity) lets you compare them on the criteria that matter to you. See also thepets tier-list page for the formal source attestation.

- 2Income pets — boost your farming
These four pets directly raise your harvest value. Equip the one that matches your current strategy:
- Deer (Rare) — Plants grow 10% faster. The default income pet for almost every player.
- Golden Dragonfly (Mythic) — Doubles the chance of the Gold mutation. Equip during Midas weather or whenever you are growing high-base crops that can roll Gold.
- Unicorn (Mythic) — Doubles the chance of the Rainbow mutation. Equip during Rainbow Moon weather or whenever you are growing high-base crops that can roll Rainbow.
- Ice Serpent (Super) — Freezes intruders and applies Frozen to your plants (defense); most expensive pet. The only pet that produces a weather mutation without weather. Also defends against thieves.
See each pet's detail page (or the full pets list) for current prices and acquisition sources.
- 3Defense pets — protect your garden
Other players can steal from your garden. Defense pets and defensive crops (Venus Fly Trap, Moon Bloom, Dragon's Breath) are your response. Three pets are dedicated to defense:
- Bee (Legendary) — Patrols the garden and swarms intruders (defense). The cheapest dedicated defense pet.
- Black Dragon (Super) — Breathes fire on intruders (defense).
- Ice Serpent (Super) — Freezes intruders and applies Frozen to your plants (defense); most expensive pet. The most expensive pet in the game; doubles as an income pet.
Pair defensive pets with owner doors, fences, and bear traps from Charlotte's Props Shop for layered defense. See the pets list for current prices.
- 4Collection pets — gather faster
Collection pets speed up the parts of the game loop that are not about sell value:
- Monkey (Mythic) — Auto-picks ripe fruit and delivers it to you. Massive quality-of-life upgrade for players with many plots.
- Robin (Legendary) — Eats ripe fruit; occasionally drops bonus seeds. The cheapest collection pet.
- Raccoon (Super) — Sneaks out at night to steal fruit; +25 steal limit. The only Robux-only Super pet.
- Owl (Uncommon) — +12.5% view distance at night; hoots when a rare pet spawns. Useful for pet hunting.
See each pet's detail page for current prices and acquisition sources.
- 5Utility pets — movement and exploration
- Frog (Common) — +5 jump height. The first pet most players buy.
- Bunny (Common) — +5 walk speed. Helps you move between plots and NPCs faster.
Big Bee (not yet confirmed in sources) — a rarer variant of Bee. Stats are not yet documented (confidence: unconfirmed). Source: Common Egg (community-reported).
See the pets list for current prices and acquisition sources for every pet above.
- 6Hatching strategy — Common Egg vs Common Pet Egg
Available eggs:
- Mega Egg (Super) — Reported as a guild-weekly top-rank reward added in the 2026-07-19 update; exact obtainability is disputed across sources (gag2.gg / mygagcalculator mark it 'not yet obtainable / Upcoming') and is recorded as unconfirmed.. Hatches into: Mega variants of standard Common-egg pets (Frog, Bunny, Deer — full pool unconfirmed).
- Common Egg (Common) — Guild Rewards (weekly). Hatches into: Frog, Bunny, Deer, others (table not fully confirmed).

- Common Fall Egg (TBA) — Fall Harvest World event egg — the base-tier Fall Egg. Pet pool reported as 8 pets incl. Shadow Dragon (lootester); Jandel Monkey pool membership unconfirmed. Per-egg distribution unconfirmed..
- Big Fall Egg (TBA) — Fall Harvest World event egg — an upgraded-tier Fall Egg. Pet pool reported as 8 pets incl. Shadow Dragon (lootester); Jandel Monkey pool membership unconfirmed. Per-egg distribution unconfirmed..
- Mega Fall Egg (TBA) — Fall Harvest World event egg — a premium-tier Fall Egg. Pet pool reported as 8 pets incl. Shadow Dragon (lootester); Jandel Monkey pool membership unconfirmed. Per-egg distribution unconfirmed..
- Rainbow Fall Egg (TBA) — Fall Harvest World event egg — the top-tier (rainbow) Fall Egg. Pet pool reported as 8 pets incl. Shadow Dragon (lootester); Jandel Monkey pool membership unconfirmed. Per-egg distribution unconfirmed..
Recommendation: claim your weekly Common Egg from Gilbert at the Guild Stand and hatch it on cooldown. The expected value is positive even if you only get a low-rarity pet, because the egg itself is free. Check the pets list for the current equivalent Sheckle value of every possible hatch.
- 7Pet pairing — when to swap
A practical equipment schedule for a player with all pets unlocked:
- 90% of the time — Deer. The 10% growth speed is always useful and never wasted.
- When Midas weather starts — swap to Golden Dragonfly. Stay equipped until the event ends and you have harvested everything.
- When Rainbow Moon starts — swap to Unicorn. Same pattern.
- When a thief enters your garden — swap to Bee, Black Dragon, or Ice Serpent. Swap back to Deer after the threat passes.
- When harvesting 4+ ripe plots — swap to Monkey for the duration of the harvest, then swap back.
- If you have Ice Serpent— consider keeping it equipped permanently. The Frozen application is rare enough that Deer's 10% growth wins on average, but Ice Serpent eliminates the need to swap during Blizzard and doubles as defense.

Tips
Pet evolution
None documented. No evolution or fusion system for pets is currently described in any of our three source sites. Pets are static once acquired — they do not level up, evolve, or merge. If a future update introduces pet evolution, this section will be updated with verified mechanics.
Acquisition cost reference
Pet prices live on the pets list (Sheckles and Robux, with confidence badges) and are kept in sync with the underlying dataset — we do not restate specific numbers here because they would go stale every calibration. Use the list to compare cheapest, first income, first defense, first Mythic income, and most expensive pets before committing your bankroll.
Where to find eggs
See the eggs page. Currently only the Common Egg is obtainable (weekly Guild Rewards via Gilbert). All other pets are bought directly with Sheckles or Robux.
