A private server is a personal instance of Grow a Garden 2 that only you (and anyone you invite) can join. Crops cannot be stolen on a private server, which makes it the safest way to grow rare plants, leave high-value crops out overnight, and experiment with mutations without worrying about raiders. Best of all: it is free to create.
Play fair. We never recommend joining random private servers from strangers — some run third-party automation that strips your inventory the moment you join. Only use servers you create or that come from people you trust.
- Open the official Grow a Garden 2 page on Roblox.
- Press the button to the right of the Play button (typically labelled Servers).
- Choose Create a Private Server.
- Select Create. Private servers are free to make — you can spin one up whenever you want a safe place to farm.
- Share the join link with friends you trust, or keep it solo.
Crops cannot be stolen on a private server, which makes it the safest way to:
- Grow rare plants without losing them overnight to a thief.
- Leave high-value crops out (a 5,000,000 Sheckles Venus Fly Trap seed, a Rainbow mutation in progress) without a defender on duty.
- Experiment with mutations and weather responses without watching the sky.
- Play with friends in a calmer environment than a busy public server.
- Learn the game at your own pace during your first hour, without pressure.
Safety comes at a cost. Specifically:
- You cannot raid. Stealing is disabled on private servers. If you want to chase the Stole a Fruit! badge or run raids for income, you must do it on a public server.
- You miss the public-server economy. No random trades, no chance encounters, no scouting other players' gardens for ideas.
- You miss weather-driven mutation diversity. This is unconfirmed, but weather events may be less diverse on a single-instance private server than on the global public pool.
- Guild rewards still apply. Your guild membership and weekly rewards carry over — you do not lose guild access by playing private.
Many players split their time: private servers for safe, focused farming; public servers when they want to steal or take part in the wider game.
- New players who want to learn the core loop without getting raided in their first hour.
- Late-game farmerswith high-value crops (Venus Fly Trap, Dragon's Breath, Mythic seeds) where a single theft event is catastrophic.
- Mutation hunters stacking weather events to maximise sell value (see the mutations guide).
- Friend groups who want to play together without public-server chaos.
- Players with limited play windows who cannot be online for every night cycle.
It suits fewer players if you thrive on competition, want the Stole a Fruit! badge, or depend on public-server trade volume for income.
Private servers are the second layer in the defense guide's four-layer model — full immunity. They sit between the free stay-home shield (which requires you to be online and inside your plot) and active deterrents (which cost Sheckles or Robux and only reduce, not eliminate, raid success).
If your goal is maximum crop value per hour and you do not care about stealing, a private server is strictly dominant: no raids means no lost crops, no defense spending, and no need to time your logins around the night cycle.
If your goal is variety — raiding, badge hunting, social play — keep your main account on a public server and use a private server as a “safe house” for your most valuable seeds.
Only use private servers you create yourself or that come from people you trust. Never join a random private server from a stranger offering free items — some run third-party automation that strips everything you own the moment you join. We never link to or endorse such servers.
There is no safe in-lobby trade system in GAG2. Treat any “drop your items” request as a scam, even on a private server with people you vaguely know.
