Trowel

The Trowel lets you move already-planted crops, which matters once you start caring about layout. Without a Trowel, rearranging a plot means digging up crops (losing them) and replanting from seed — a costly loop when those crops are higher-tier multi-harvest plants like Corn.

The Trowel is an early-accessible Rare item. The right time to pick one up is the moment you start caring about layout — typically when defensive positioning becomes relevant (see the defense guide) or when you upgrade your plot size and need to re-center your crops.

Defensive positioning matters during night-stealing windows: crops on the plot edge are easier for raiders to reach than crops clustered near the center. The Trowel is the tool that makes cluster defense layouts possible. Among the confirmed tools in our dataset, the Trowel is the reposition option — without it, repositioning a crop means losing it and replanting.

The standard pattern is to use the Trowel to pull high-value crops inward and push lower-value crops outward as a buffer. Combined with a defensive pet like Bee and defensive props from Charlotte, the Trowel is part of the layered approach outlined in the defense guide.
